Women's Protest against ATA

Women's Protest against ATA

On April 20, 2023, the Northeast Women's Collective organized a peaceful protest in front of the Trincomalee Municipal Council, voicing their opposition to the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Women from different walks of life participated in the vigil, holding placards with powerful slogans protesting the ATA.

The Northeast Women's Collective is a grassroots organization that has been working tirelessly to promote gender equality and human rights in the region. The ATA has come under scrutiny for its potential to be used to violate human rights, particularly against vulnerable communities and minorities.

The women's protest in Trincomalee is part of a larger movement calling for the repeal of the ATA. The protesters are urging the government to prioritize the protection of human rights and civil liberties, rather than compromising them in the name of security.

The Northeast Women's Coalition, along with other civil society organizations, will continue to advocate for the repeal of the ATA and work towards a more just and equal society where human rights are respected and protected.
