Lobby between New Zealand Deputy High Commissioner

Lobbying session held today (19.03.2024) featured discussions between New Zealand Deputy High Commissioner Andrew Traveller, Irregular Migration Liaison Officer Brett Shields, and AHRC & NECC Partners at AHRC with the lead of K. LAvakusarasa Coordinator of AHRC and NECC, focusing on pressing issues in the northeast region of Sri Lanka. The dialogue notably delved into the immediate threats confronting marginalized communities and civil society organizations. Key topics addressed included escalating violence against women, domestic abuse, t

e pervasive trend of Buddhisization, and the alarming prevalence of land grabbing incidents.

Capacity building for Democratic Forum - Valaichenai



Organized by AHRC, training related to financial management for the Democratic stakeholders of Valaichenai Pradeshiya Sabha was held today (19) morning at the Valaichenai Pradeshiya Sabha Hall. Clarifications were given on the following points.
1. What is victimization?
2. Contents of Pathet?
3. How can civil networks play their part in disaster preparation?
4. When will the contribution be made by the Pradeshiya Sabha? When will it be released?
5. How will its implementation be seen?
Civil network representatives and ward councilors participated in the exercise.
As a resource Kandasamy (Finance Assistant Vaharai Pradeshiya Sabha) was present.

 

 

The income of the people of Thannamravadi has increased

Our company provided fishing equipment worth 27 lakhs to 12 fishing families (male and female) engaged in fishing in Kuchchaveli Tennamaravadi village on 05.09.2023. As a result of this they are earning daily income.
Also those engaged in agriculture across the water levels can easily bring their paddy bags by boat. Through our field trip today (14.02.2024) we have come to know that they are benefiting greatly.
Also, if the people who have migrated from Thannamaravadi village and live in other districts try to live permanently in their village again, our company is ready to provide the necessary assistance for their livelihood and existence.

 

Dialogue with democratic stakeholders - Thampaalakamam

A discussion with democratic stakeholders held once in 45 days under the program “An Arena for Democratic Stakeholders” implemented by AHRC was held today (07.03.2024) at Tambalagamam Pradeshiya Sabha Hall.
Secretary and members of Tambalagamam Divisional Council, Tambalagamam Divisional Civil Activists, media persons and youth were participating in this discussion. During this, various issues were discussed and some issues related to the development of the region were also discussed and activities like clarifying the activities carried out by the Divisional Council to the people and presenting the demands of the people to the Divisional Council were also held.

 

A civil network for the Vellaveli region has been created.

The civil network for the Vellavelly region was formed today (28) to obtain solutions to the ownership and development issues in the Vellavelly region of Batticaloa with the participation of the people. 30 people representing 19 village sevak units from Vellaveli region were participating in the said network. On behalf of AHRC, project coordinator V. Kumari, field coordinators P. Sirojan, J. Thanushan and S. Padmaseelan participated in the event.
