FOSTERING PEACE AND HARMONY: POSAN POYA DAY EVENT

FOSTERING PEACE AND HARMONY: POSAN POYA DAY EVENT

In the Trincomalee district, our organization has been dedicated to fostering peace and racial harmony among the Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim communities. Throughout the years, we have successfully implemented various programs aimed at bridging the gap and promoting understanding between these ethnic groups.

One of our notable initiatives has been the organization of religious events that serve as platforms for individuals from different backgrounds to come together, fostering mutual respect and understanding. As an example, on April 10, 2023, we organized an Iftar event to commemorate the holy month of Ramadan. The event received positive feedback and participation from the Muslim community, contributing to the promotion of interfaith dialogue and cooperation.

Continuing our efforts, the Dhansal event was organized on June 2nd and 3rd, 2023, with the objective of fostering harmony among diverse ethnic and religious groups in conjunction with the Posan event. The event was jointly organized by the Kandalai and Morowewa Divisional Civil Society Network, serving as a unifying platform for people from various backgrounds.

The Dhansal event witnessed the active participation of individuals representing different religious affiliations. Esteemed guests included a respected Buddhist Monk, a Christian priest, and the coordinator of a non-governmental organization representing the G.A., all of whom exemplified the spirit of interfaith cooperation and mutual respect.

The inclusivity of the event was evident as individuals from all three castes actively participated, emphasizing the importance of unity and understanding among different social groups. By bringing people together and facilitating dialogue, the Dhansal event aimed to strengthen bonds and promote a sense of togetherness within the community, furthering our ongoing efforts to foster peace and racial harmony in the Trincomalee district.
